Black Agenda Report 2023
Published on December 22, 2023 by Margaret Kimberley
Black Agenda Report (BAR) was founded in October 2006 with a mission to provide "News, commentary and analysis from the Black left." BAR continues to publish a weekly issue of 10 - 12 articles, commentary, historical reviews, book reviews, and poetry under the direction of a three-person editorial team. BAR also features the Black Agenda Review, BAR Book Forum, and Black Agenda Radio.
BAR continues its tradition of covering issues that are ignored by corporate media such as the impending occupation of Haiti. The site also presents critical analysis when the corporate media give great attention to certain topics as in Israel and Gaza but only repeat official narratives.
The Black Agenda Review focuses on historical events and the work of eminent figures such as Amiri Baraka and Claudia Jones. BAR Book Forum gives authors an opportunity to discuss the significance of their published books to the BAR audience.
Black Agenda Radio is heard on stations such as WBAI in New York and WPFW in Washington. These interviews have been played 41,000 times in the last 12 months.
BAR has a dedicated readership on social media platforms. BAR increased its number of followers on X, formerly Twitter, from 38,000 one year ago to more than 40,000 followers in 2023. There are currently more than 7,500 subscribers who read BAR every week.
BAR Editors are regularly invited to participate in national and international conferences and events, which speaks to the publication’s influence and the depth of its body of work.
In 2023 Black Agenda Report (BAR) sought out more writers to provide original submissions to our site. That process has helped us to cultivate a regular group of contributors.
We were challenged in 2023 by an unexpected problem with our web hosts, but they have overcome that issue, and we are publishing regularly.
In 2024 we plan to increase the number of contributors to BAR and enhance our reporting capabilities. We look forward to having a very productive year and we remain committed to providing the best in political analysis from the Black left.
The Black Agenda Report team is very grateful for all the support we receive.
