Release: Cyprus Confidential
Published on July 5, 2024 by Lorax Horne

Starting in 2022, a series of hacks of accounting firms in Cyprus provided documents detailing how oligarchs use the European offshore jurisdiction to avoid international sanctions. The Cyprus Confidential collaboration by Papertrail Media, the OCCRP and the ICIJ was one of the largest international journalism investigations in recent years.

The ongoing investigation by 278 journalists from 69 media partners in 54 countries looked at five leaks from Cyprus, and has won awards like the TRACE prize. Fallout from these publications continues with US and Cyprus cooperating to investigate financial crimes, Lithuania looking to reform citizenship laws, and Cyprus promising a new financial sanctions unit with assistance from the UK.
In particular, the files from DDoSecrets’ release from DJC Accountants showed how the island nation became a hub for businesses like pornography websites, Israeli surveillance firms trying to keep a low profile, and alleged Hamas investors.

DDoSecrets also hosts the data from Kallias & Associates. Both these datasets are now public. Please seed the torrents for DJC and Kallias, so more people can access this data, faster. Check out our Torrent health tracker for other torrents anyone can help to seed.

DDoSecrets’ reserved collection also includes the datasets from MeritServus and MeritKapital. Merit data is still only available to journalists and researchers, upon request.
