We are excited to propose a Climate Strike event in Kisumu, Kenya in September, to raise awareness about the urgent need to save Lake Victoria and combat climate change. As the largest freshwater lake in Africa, Lake Victoria is not only a vital source of livelihood for millions but also a critical ecosystem that plays a pivotal role in regulating our planet's climate. Our proposed event aims to ignite a sense of urgency and collective action while shedding light on the destructive impacts of climate capitalism on Lake Victoria and its communities. Event Objectives: Raise Awareness: The primary objective of the Climate Strike is to create widespread awareness about the immediate threats facing Lake Victoria and how its preservation is intricately tied to tackling the global climate crisis. Community Empowerment: We intend to empower local communities by organizing a pre-climate workshop. This workshop will not only educate participants about climate change and its local implications but also offer a platform to create impactful placards and train future climate activists. We also seek to expose climate capitalism through the strike as we will also hold a press briefing, with a common aim to spotlight the detrimental effects of climate capitalism on Lake Victoria. We will draw attention to how unsustainable economic practices are exacerbating climate change, polluting the lake, and disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities. As a call for Action we seek to mobilize individuals, communities, and policymakers to take immediate action towards environmental conservation, sustainable practices, and policies that prioritize the well-being of Lake Victoria and its inhabitants. Pre-Climate Workshop: Prior to the Climate Strike, we will conduct a workshop designed to educate participants about the interconnectedness of Lake Victoria's health and the global climate crisis. Attendees will engage in discussions, interactive sessions, and awareness-building exercises. Moreover, this workshop will provide a platform to create visually compelling placards and equip local activists, primarily students and youth, with effective communication and mobilization strategies.

Expense policies
You can submit two types of expense:
Receipt: receipt for something you paid for that needs to be reimbursed. Expenses are generic and don't have the details of the person who paid.
Invoice: bill from the vendor directly addressed to the collective. They must be addressed to the collective at the attention of one of its members. If needed, here is a useful template.
