September Resource Center Highlights!
Published on September 18, 2022 by Brett

We hosted our monthly Resource Center yesterday, and it was a total success. We were able to connect over 50 guests to valuable resources and supplies!

One of the highlights of the event was the addition of a "chill space" by our community partner Palms Unhoused Mutual Aid (PUMA). The Chill Space served a place of relaxation for guests, complete with pillows, candles, and an essential oil diffuser. Participants were gifted incense and tea candles to take with them to continue the mediation back at their camp sites.

In addition to providing the chill space, PUMA also regularly provides an art corner where folks can let their creativity flow and a maker's station. Unhoused folks live extremely stressful and traumatic lives. We hope to incorporate more healing activities into future resource centers. If you have any ideas or something you'd like to contribute, please email us at [email protected]!
Our art station had some young volunteers to help create!

Beautiful art work by PUMA!

We welcomed back
ACAB Library from South Bay Mutual Aid Care Club for the second month in a row. They provide tons of free books for people!

For our meal this month, our volunteer Noah from Universal Human Rights Initiative (UHRI) brought back delicious rice and bean bowls. We love sharing home cooked meals with our all our volunteers and guests! Thank you to Free Food Collective for funding the meals this month!

We also had a lot of new organizations join us like Latino Resource Organization. We are committed to providing as many resources to people as possible, and we look forward to continuously grow our network of service providers.

We also welcomed a hairdresser to offer fresh cuts from Humanity Resources. Project ID, an organization that helps to get folks their IDs and birth certificates, came back for a second month in a row too! DPSS came to help folks sign up for a variety of social services like general relief financial assistance, medi-cal sign-ups, and more!

We welcomed back Hunger Action LA, an organization that signs people up for Cal-Fresh. They have been with us since our very first resource center! We are are so grateful for their commitment and partnership. Dignity on Wheels, a mobile shower and laundry truck, came back as well. They have been with us for almost a year now too. Here's a photo of Paul from Dignity on Wheels enjoying some doggie snuggles!

Many thanks to our team of 35+ dedicated volunteers who helped us pull off this event. We are also so thankful for our donors, whose contributions help us to be able to continue putting on the resource center. If you'd like to volunteer for our next resource center on October 15th in Mar Vista, you sign up through this link.
