Metagov Membership Program
This is the living document for Metagov’s membership program, initially Ratified on November 14, 2022 and under Transitional Governance until November 14, 2023.
Motivation
Metagov is an open community of research and practice. Active participants are encouraged, but not required, to become contributing members of the organization. Membership isn’t prerequisite for general participation in any way. The purpose of the membership program is to encourage wider participation in the Metagov community and to generate resources that support the facilitation and development of the community. The membership is designed to give the community an avenue to pool together their resources and actively determine how those resources are allocated and governed. Developing this collective self-governance mechanism serves as the basis for developing stronger ties between the governance of Metagov and its community.
Becoming a Member
Membership is charged annually and managed through Open Collective. There are three tiers of membership. All members are granted the same rights regardless of tier.
- $20: student (flat)
- $50-$250: professional (sliding scale)
- $500+: benefactor
- Paid work for Metagov or an in-kind contribution agreement
Membership contributions made through the links above are allocated to a pot of funds separate from other donations and contributions. Donations and contributions made from partners or otherwise do not automatically confer membership.
Membership Involves
- Cobudgeting for member contributions and other forms of collective fundraising
- Codesigning governance processes for members and Metagov in general
- Developing new programs and collaborations
- Remaining active in the community, for example through participation in community spaces, research collaborations, product development, and other activities relevant to Metagov’s mission
- Abiding by Metagov’s Code of Conduct and the oversight of Metagov’s board
Transitional Governance
For the first year after this policy is passed, it may be amended at will by Metagov’s executive director (where amendments must be tracked publicly), and members may be appointed and removed at will by the executive director.
Refer to the latest version of the policy for a full revision history during the transitional period.
