End of Year Reminders and Call for Support
Published on December 10, 2023 by Eleanor

Hi North Brooklyners!

As the year comes to an end, we continue to be so grateful for our community and all that we have achieved this year. We collect compost weekly, stock free fridges, provide neighbors with groceries, distribute care kits, and run a community garden to stock free fridges with fresh, local produce. We couldn’t do it without the help of our volunteers and our neighbors supporting and funding the cause. Please consider donating today (link here) to keep these essential programs running.

Here are just some examples of the work we did this year!

- Mccarren Park Demo Garden: Harvested 855 lbs of produce for the free fridges and more than doubled our volunteer network
- Care Kits: Packed and distributed 900+ kits this year: 300 winter kits, 300 hygiene kits, and 300+ period kits. Distribution expanded to include local libraries.
- Free Fridges: Over 50+ volunteers stewarded four community fridges year-round including grocery shopping, food rescues, and fridge maintenance.
- Compost: 73,560 lbs of scraps (~37 tons) collected
- And a continual network of over 1,000 volunteers responding to individual neighbor requests, from groceries for seniors to baby supplies for new parents to emergency climate response.

Some end of year housekeeping for our donors and volunteers:

- Please submit all outstanding expenses by January 15th, 2024. After this date, 2023 expenses will no longer be approved.
- In-kind donation receipts for 2023 must be submitted by January 15th, 2024, as well.

Happy Holidays!
Your North Brooklyn Neighbors
