A New Edition of the Now What?! Gift Economy is Coming Soon!
Fundraising for the last round of the Now What?! Gift Economy has completed. THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who contributed so generously and helped to prototype this process. We are now distributing the $1648 that was received in gifts ($1755 less $107 in processing fees) back out to each of the various recipients as they submit their requests for payment (treated as "expenses" within this platform). Details can be found here.
The next edition of Now What?! will take place from October 14 through November 22, and will include another iteration of this "pop-up" Gift Economy. There will be some process changes based on learnings from the round that has just ended. The most notable of these will be a new distinction between general Now What?! participants and those who choose to become members of a "Now What?! Collective." Only Collective Members will receive the invitations that determine how money will be allocated across the three "buckets" that receive financial support: 1) the conveners, hosts, designers, artists, consultants, etc. who make Now What?! possible, 2) one or more projects, and 3) an optional "member dividend."
In addition to the process changes described above, the basic description of Now What?! will also be updated to reflect the framing for the Oct-Nov edition, which can now be viewed on a new website at www.nowwhat2019.com. A full description of the revised Gift Economy process will also be posted on this platform by September 30, and on the Gift Economy page on the Now What?! website. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Ben Roberts.
Meanwhile, financial contributions to the October-November edition of the Gift Economy can be made at any time, using this Open Collective platform. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
