2023 Year End Update
Published on December 22, 2023 by Dan Katz
As 2023 comes to a close, NYC++ looks back on its first year of meetups for New York's community of C++ enthusiasts.
What did we accomplish in 2023?
We held catered meetups with 40-80 attendees every month of the year, except for September. We partnered with our first two corporate sponsors (Bloomberg LP and Monochrome Search), brought talks by world-renowned experts to the public at no expense, and grew our Meetup community to 950+ members. We partnered with companies and institutes across the city to host our meetups, including: Adobe, LSEG, Meta, MongoDB, and NYU.
What challenges did you face during 2023?
Some of our biggest challenges involved growing our community of companies able to host us, and ensuring that we had budget to cater food for each evennt. Macroeconomic conditions led to decreased community budgets among some companies that were otherwise interested in sponsoring us. We remained persistent and scrappy though, and even though meetups sometimes came together only a week in advance, they came together nonetheless and continued to maintain a very high level of quality.
What are your plans for 2024? Anything exciting coming up?
Absolutely; as we enter 2024, we're in talks with several companies interested in hosting NYC++ for the first time. Our financial outlook is looking rosier as well, with reason to hope that our budget will be far healthier than it was for 2023. 2024 is looking to be a year of maturation for our meetup, which means that we can look forward to pivoting away from "just trying to make it month to month", and towards a mindset of growth.
Anything else?
We want to thank everybody who has helped to make our meetup a success this past year: Our corporate sponsors, our community donors, our invited speakers, our host companies, and of course our community of C++ enthusiasts. We hope to keep seeing you in 2024 - Have a wonderful holiday season, and a happy new year!
