Hope you're having a happy and safe Halloween weekend 🎃. It's been a bit since the last update so there's quite a few things to share:
- In the last update, I shared a form for submitting feedback. Please take some time to fill it out if you haven't already. There were two things consistent in all feedback received and they highlight Papertree's opportunity and challenges well.
- Of the handful of folks who submitted feedback, 100% said they would be very disappointed if Papertree were to shut down. That tells me we're doing something right and it's worth pushing through the obstacles to make Papertree last!
- There was also unanimous feedback around not knowing when expenses would be reimbursed. I've highlighted this before, but creating a consistent flow of funds is probably the biggest existential threat to Papertree. Would love to hear ideas on this.
- This month, several actions were taken to put Papertree in a better position to serve the community:
- I applied with Papertree for the Tom's of Maine Incubator (thanks again @Mireille for letting me know about this + the Black Farmers mixer, you're a star)
- Submitted a proposal on behalf of Papertree to the GoodGhosting community. GoodGhosting develops crypto savings games where the interest earned can be directed to projects like Papertree
- Converted all of the crypto contributions Papertree has received over to USD to help cover pending expenses
- I applied with Papertree and was accepted into the 2nd ever ReFi DAO Founders Circles. The previous cohort recently raised over $420K from the web3 community and on average 3x more than their peer projects during the same timeframe.
- Our friends at We The People NYC added Papertree to their linktree. WTP NYC is an on-the-ground, grassroots mutual aid effort supporting residents of Bed Stuy with hot food and essential goods while fostering community, every Thursday @ Fulton & Nostrand.
- I agreed to join the technical working group behind https://hypercerts.xyz/. We're hoping to join forces to develop a new vehicle for impact funding.
In under 4 months Papertree has gone from an idea, to launching, to creating over $7K worth of estimated annual impact, connecting with on-the-ground mutual aid orgs, and even getting our very own community members to problem solve with us! I hope you'll continue to build with us as we imagine new futures and figure out together how to create a more equitable food system accessible to all.
Until next time ✌🏾.
