Hey What's Up Update
Published on December 21, 2023 by Keke Woods
In 2023, we laid a strong foundation for Rootz. We began to hold space in the community for Movement and healing, while hosting community events that centered togetherness and family. Like our I Am Mindfulness walk that fostered a sense of wellbeing through nature and affirmations allowing community to find freedom and connection in their local park. We were also able to support 25 people travel to D.C. for the Black Mothers March, which Rootz sponsored an immersive art experience around family policing and forced separation of children from their families.
Our biggest challenge was having access to affordable safe spaces that were also easily accessible to the community at large. We learned that even more now, we need secure space that supports the mission and vision of Rootz with the visual representation by way of a Brick and Mortar location.
We are in the process of locating a home that will be the first brick & mortar location for Rootz. Our hopes are to open this location in the beginning of 2024! While the process of securing space we will host our first Black Mothers resting and wellness retreat and monthly Unity Circles. We continue to be excited for the future.
