It happened almost unnoticed inside a busy Miguel's Latin Market. Three years in the making, we fulfilled the first in-store Free Orders. No additional space required, no staff to pickup, pack, and distribute orders. No pantry lines, no street powered fridges to maintain. No ID required from neighbors, no limited selection of products to choose from, just shopping like every other neighbor in Miguel's that morning.
There will be no parades, no medals handed out, no ribbons cut, not even a handshake exchanged. Just an acknowledgment between volunteers and shoppers that it worked. And that is exactly the way it should be. A vision of making the Free Shopping experience indistinguishable from traditional shopping in a modest family run grocery named Miguel's Latin Market in Spring Hill, Florida.
