Community Knits Together at Christmas

Not content with the standard Christmas jumper, members of the Stapleford community have been invited to knit/crochet “Granny Squares” by Yarn Bomb Stapleford to make impressive two-metre-high Christmas trees. The first tree comes complete with knitted gift boxes. An added touch are the pompom baubles, which were made during an intergenerational craft morning jointly run by The Helpful Bureau and the Stapleford and Surrounding Areas Mutual Aid Group.
As part of the same project, a second smaller tree comprising of beautifully decorated felt squares has been made by students at the Arthur Mee Centre. Both these trees can be seen in the window of Stapleford Care Centre. A third tree has also been made by Stapleford Baptist Church and will be on display in the window on Albert Street.
A spokesperson from Yarn Bomb Stapleford said “It’s wonderful that so many groups and individuals from our community have been able to work on this project. We’d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and the Stapleford Care Centre for allowing us to display the finished pieces. The overall effect is fantastic.”
The project received funding from ICP Growth Fund and the displays can be seen until the new year.
