About
Black Trans Foundation is a new non-profit grassroots organisation working for the social advancement of Black* trans* people in the UK. We are building a world where Black trans & non-binary people have the same access to healthcare and opportunities as our cisgender counterparts. We are a team of 3 Black trans people who came together to address this need.
What do we do?
We provide 16 weeks (4 months) of free therapy to Black trans and non-binary individuals in the UK. We bridge the financial gap which often makes therapy inaccessible to our community by funding these sessions. We also reduce the emotional labour that is involved in finding a therapist as we find the therapists and sort out all the admin. All of our therapists share partial or whole lived experience with our clients.
We were initially raising money to take on 10 clients, but thanks to the huge support we've received so far, we now have 28 Black trans people in therapy! We are now working on expanding our service so that we can help even more people, and make our positions more permanent.
How we are funded
The Blagrave Trust
The contribution of £4560 from 'Black Trans Foundation', on the Budget page, is the grant that was awarded to us by the Blagrave Trust to launch our organisation, back in September 2020. These funds were applied for on the basis of staff pay and have been used to pay for our time working on this cause. This grant is now fully spent.
All donations on this platform from this point on (17th March 2021) will go towards funding the therapy sessions, as we do not pay our staff on this platform anymore.
Public funding
We have raised the majority of our funds from crowdfunding. We also received an additional grant from Voice4Change England and a significant donation from Black Minds Matter, who we are in partnership with. We are now looking for more long-term and concrete ways to secure funding for the future of Black Trans Foundation.
How to donate
You can donate via:
Paypal (we receive 100% of the funds)
GoFundMe
Open Collective: You can also make a one-off or recurring donation via this platform in the Contribute section. Please choose 'bank transfer' to avoid the 1% (+20p) payment processor fee for debit/credit card.
