Fundraising 2024: Biotech Without Borders

Biotech Without Borders is a 100% volunteer-run, member-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to democratizing biotechnology. We believe that biotechnology needs to be accessible and understandable to all if we are to face pressing challenges like the climate crisis and wealth inequality. Part of how we make an impact is by maintaining a collectively managed BSL1 lab space for folks to tinker with biotech in a affordable, fun, and safe environment. We also teach classes to bring in revenue and operate mentorship programs.

   We reopened in Long Island City, Queens just as the pandemic restrictions were being relaxed in November 2021 with a generous donation from an individual who previously benefited from the environment of community labs. Through our operations, we have come to understand our role as providing a shared infrastructure and a community for groups and individuals seeking access to a lab outside the restrictions of academia and industry; mutual aid for (aspiring) bench scientists. Over the years our members have included academic/industrial scientists, entrepreneurs, designers, activists, and artists. We hope that in time our organization can be fully-funded by our members who recognize and derive value from the shared lab, but we're not there yet! We need your help to fund us for another year to continue attracting members and delivering our programming.

   Our campaign is running until Giving Tuesday November 28, 2023 where-upon we will contact contributors by the emails they used to contribute and ask for shipping information so we can send merch and/or begin to schedule classes. All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by the law in the USA.
