About

Out of the box is an online negotiation game that shows polarisation mechanisms, among the most important factors in radicalisation. The rules of the game are easy to learn and the game setting is also simple to tweak for different players' needs, as it can be modified to tell the story of designing a school, a library, a university campus etc. The game is run through voice channels for discussion on Discord.

Focus

The game emphasises the need for communication and cooperation and highlights the importance of a democratic inclusive decision-making process. The game includes multicultural elements to sensitise and educate the player base on different needs of people of various cultural backgrounds.

Plot

The game is set in a local community, divided into different groups of interest who argue over a community centre to be built in their local area. The mission of each group is to choose facilities for the new centre. Is it better to build a gym or a library? The players will have to negotiate with members of other teams to find a common ground and get their dream facility.

Participants' role

The game can be run with 12 to 36 players. The participants are playing in teams of 3. Each group will go through 3 rounds of internal discussion and 3 rounds where they will have to negotiate with other teams.

How to register

You will need a ticket to play the game with us! Registration is FREE (but you're welcome to donate) and can be done easily through this link.

Why

Out of the Box is one of the games that have been developed for Game Changer, a European Union grant funded project that is building a network of experts and NGOs to develop and scale up deradicalisation campaigns. Game Changer provides training tools, field expert support and guidance to NGOs, CSOs and aspiring young leaders. Out of the Box is part of another element of the project that involves the use of online games, which promote tolerance, civic engagement, diversity and inclusion through gamification.

Camp Collapse (through All for Climate) is one of the 26 organisations in 16 countries, selected to facilitate playing over 113 games with 1400+ young people across Europe.
