About
Fodongo is a Free-Culture, Indie Comics zine project edited and put together by Jectoons, started on November 2023.
The aim of the project is two-fold: to support independent comic artists and to advocate for and normalize the free sharing of culture, in the form of comics.
How it works
Every issue 3 independent artists are commissioned to each create a 3-page comic in black and white to be released under a Free-Culture License (either WTFPL, CC0, CCBY, CCBYSA or FAL). The comics are put together in a .pdf for sale on the GeeseGoose Media Co-Op store, and then they are released once a week for everyone to read on the Fodongo website. Once all comics are published on the site the digital zine becomes a pay-what-you-want download.
All the revenue from sales is split among participating artists and the project, so the artists get residuals paid to them as long as zines get sold.
For the 1st Batch of zines (issues #1-#12) the budget was of $75CAD per comic. For the 2nd Batch (issues #13-#24) the budget is $80CAD per comic. It is the goal of the zine to increase this budget as much as possible to compensate artists fairly.
You can read more about the history and context of the project, as well as the reasonings behind things, on this update post.
