About

The Project
The Gaza Education Hub is a vital project aimed at supporting university and high school students in Gaza who have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict. With education severely disrupted and access to essential services like electricity and internet limited, many students are unable to participate in their online classes, jeopardizing their academic futures. This initiative seeks to create safe, equipped spaces where displaced students can resume their studies and pursue their educational goals.

The Problem
Since the escalation of violence in Gaza, the educational infrastructure has been devastated. Over 80% of schools have been destroyed or damaged, 88,000 students are unable to continue their studies, and access to basic utilities like electricity and the internet has become a luxury. Many families are living in shelters or makeshift tents, with no way to provide their children with the environment they need for learning. In addition, the daily costs of accessing internet services—approximately $10 per day per student—are prohibitive for families who have lost their incomes due to the conflict.
The Gaza Education Hub was created to bridge this gap and provide displaced students with a stable and supportive learning environment.

Our Solution
The Gaza Education Hub will serve as a free study space equipped with reliable electricity generated from solar energy to ensure continuous availability, high-speed internet for uninterrupted access to online learning platforms, essential furniture and study materials including desks, chairs, stationery, and laptops, and mental health and emotional support through workshops and counseling services to help students deal with trauma and stress.
By creating this conducive learning environment, the Gaza Education Hub enables students to resume their education despite the ongoing challenges in Gaza.
Current Status
Since starting on August 31, 2024, the Gaza Education Hub currently serves 120 students every day by providing them with free space, free internet access, and electricity generated by solar panels. This project seeks to expand our efforts to serve 1,000 additional students every day, equipping them with the tools and resources they need to succeed and secure a brighter future for Gaza.
Impact
The Gaza Education Hub is expected to have a significant and lasting impact on displaced students and the broader Gaza community. The Hub will offer up to 1,000 displaced university and high school students a free, accessible place to study, equipped with all necessary learning resources. By providing a stable study environment, students will have the opportunity to improve their academic results, leading to better employment and educational opportunities in the future. The Hub will also offer mental
health services, including workshops on stress management and counseling to help students deal with the psychological toll of the conflict, building their resilience.
Additionally, by engaging community members as volunteers, mentors, and supporters, the Hub will strengthen social ties and foster a culture of learning and mutual aid. The initiative’s focus on education will contribute to the long-term socio-economic development of the Gaza Strip. An educated and empowered generation will drive innovation, economic growth, and social progress in the region.
Goals
The primary objective of the Gaza Education Hub is to provide displaced students with the resources and support they need to continue their education during the conflict. Specific goals include establishing a safe and equipped learning space in Deir Al-Balah that will serve students displaced to the southern region of Gaza. The Hub will provide 1,000 university and high school students, with 50% being female and accommodations for students with disabilities, access to internet, electricity, and study materials.
The Hub will also provide comprehensive academic support, including access to tutors, mentors, and learning resources to help students catch up on their studies and excel academically. Mental health services will be offered through workshops, counseling sessions, and stress management programs to address the emotional and psychological needs of students. Once the conflict ends, the Hub will be moved to Gaza City and expanded to reach more students, ensuring long-term sustainability and continued support.
Activities
The Gaza Education Hub will engage in the following activities to achieve its goals:
  • Set up and equip the Hub by renting a space, installing solar-powered electricity, high-speed internet, and providing essential furniture and supplies for 1,000 students.
  • Open registration for displaced students, prioritizing those based on need, especially those without access to alternative learning environments, and create a rotating schedule to maximize usage of the space.
  • Deliver ongoing services, ensuring that students have continuous access to electricity, internet, stationery, and study materials throughout the duration of the initiative.
  • Provide mental health support through counseling sessions and workshops to address trauma, stress, and emotional well-being.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress by implementing a robust evaluation framework to assess the success of the initiative, collect feedback from students and stakeholders, and adjust operations as needed.

Budget
The total cost for the Gaza Education Hub is estimated at $46,638.60 to support 1,000 students over a period of four months. This budget covers the costs of setting up the hub, operational expenses, and staff salaries.
