Evelyn Kunda rescues those accused of witchcraft from torture and murder at great personal risk in Papua New Guinea. This collective sits alongside the film Marimari for our charitable impact work in Aotearoa.
This Open Collective goes hand-in-hand with the feature documentary MARIMARI to support Human Rights Defender Evelyn Kunda in her work, and to tell her story to the world. Among communities ruled by fear, a single woman, Evelyn, rescues those accused of witchcraft from torture and murder at great personal risk in the rapidly changing society of Papua New Guinea.
This Collective's purpose is to host funds for the New Zealand based activities that sit alongside the distribution of the film. This Collective is fiscally hosted by the Gift Trust which enables us to access charitable status without becoming a charity ourselves.
We have another Collective dedicated to our long-term goal which is to support Evelyn to acquire land and build a safehouse, so that she can continue to care for and rescue sorcery violence survivors without fear. Our work in Aotearoa looks like a series of events with Evelyn and the team behind the film. Marimari will premiere on the big screen in August 2024 and then we'll be able to host private fundraising screenings to help reach our impact goal.
We have a few private fundraising screenings planned at the moment, as well as an exhibition at Pataka in Porirua.
If you'd like to co-host an event with us please let us know! We're always looking for partners to work with.
