August and September 2023 sponsors update
Published on October 3, 2023 by Ruth Cheesley

Hello wonderful supporters of Mautic!

First please accept my sincere apologies for the lack of an update last month.   I had some vacation time at the start of September and unfortunately ended up having a bit of an accident and badly breaking my wrist which required surgery, so it's taken me a little while to get back up just speed with things! I am on the road to recovery and greatly appreciate all the messages of well wishing!

August and September have typically been quieter months in the community as people take time to have vacations with their loved ones.  Despite there being less people around, in fact there's been quite a lot going on behind the scenes.

Here's a few updates for you which I hope you will find enlightening.

Mautic 5

Firstly the question on everybody's lips,  when are we going to be releasing Mautic 5?

Yesterday we shared finalised timeline for the releases which you can find here in the forums.   The dates are as follows

- Mautic 5 beta1: 9 October 2023
- Mautic 5 rc1: 23 October 2023
- Mautic 5 GA: 6 November 2023

This is entirely dependent on us addressing the main blockers which are outlined in the post above.

New team members

Security Team Project Manager
I'm delighted to share that we have a new member of the Security Team who has started as a provisional member. Lenon Leite has taken on the Security Team Project Manager role.  This involves reviewing incoming reports, determining whether they are valid and assigning them to individuals to resolve, and then following them through to completion and release.

Thank you Lenon for stepping up and taking on this much needed role!

Marketing team role change
We are super grateful to Déborah Salves, who has done an amazing job in the role of Assistant Team Lead for the Marketing Team.  When her role came up for renewal she decided it was time to step down, but don't worry she's not leaving the community completely and she will still be around!

Sven Döring has kindly offered to step up and take on this role.  He has been an active and enthusiastic member of our community and we believe his skills and passion will bring a fresh perspective to our marketing efforts.

Please join us in welcoming both volunteers to their new roles - we are so grateful that you're willing to give up your time to help us make Mautic even more awesome!

Becoming a member

Last month we launched the much awaited governance model and enabled individuals and companies to become a member of Mautic. You can read more about this in our launch blog.

If you haven't already become an individual member then please do consider it

The base rate is $100 per year,  but if this is too much you can also pro-rate this based on the location where you are registered for tax using the Big Mac method, you will find the calculations in this spreadsheet under the members calculations tab.

You can also become an individual member through the practical contribution route -  full details are provided in the blog post above.

Join as an individual member here.

Companies and organizations who use and/or rely on Mautic now have the opportunity to stand up and support the project by becoming a member.  We have developed several tiers in collaboration with multiple organisations across the community, which have various perks available.

Ranging from Community Membership ($1,200/yr) to Bronze ($5,000/yr), Silver ($10,000/yr), Gold ($15,000/yr) and Platinum ($20,000/yr), learn more about the additional perks that are offered for each tier in the chart here.  We have firm commitments from companies who plan to join at all levels, which has been wonderful to see.

You can sign up directly on Open Collective by selecting the appropriate tier, but don't forget to use an organizational account, rather than your personal account if you want to ensure that your company is recognized on Open Collective.

Join as a corporate member here.

If you have any questions at all, or if you need an invoice, please reach out to me directly and I can arrange that - just drop me an email or via our shared mailbox at [email protected].

Our goal is to ensure that we can become a financially stable organisation by the end of this year, continuing to support our ongoing infrastructure costs at the same time as being able to appropriately resource the project going forward.

We need your help to make this happen, for the future of Mautic.

Please become a member today!

Community events

Drupal Developer Days /  Community Sprint

At the end of July we had a great opportunity to colocate with Drupal Developer Days  in Vienna.  We held a community sprint during the days we were there, and had lots of opportunity to chat with people from across the Drupal community about Mautic.

There is definitely a growing interest and awareness within the open source content management system world about the importance of considering systems like Mautic alongside the content management system when providing digital services to clients.

We are well placed within the Drupal community currently - as there is a lot of awareness of Mautic - but I would like to see us building more connections with other open source projects, developing the integrations that we have and the documentation available to help people integrating with those systems.

I would love to see us doing more things together,  perhaps co-hosting stands at conferences and getting involved in presenting at events outside of our bubble, because that really helps people to see how everything fits together - both from the user side and from the implementer side.   If you have ideas for this, please don't hesitate to reach out to me!

MautiCamp Africa

Coming up very soon is our first ever MautiCamp event, MautiCamp Africa.  These events are conferences which are organised by the local community in a country or region, as opposed to the official conferences which are organised by the Community Team centrally.

I'm so excited to see the first ever MautiCamp getting kicked off - I can't wait to speak at the event, and spend some time with our amazing and rapidly growing community over in Lagos, Nigeria.

The team are also organising a Hacktoberfest sprint the day before the event - a great way for people who've never come across Mautic to come and find out more about our Open Source project whilst also working towards the coveted 4 pull requests made to an Open Source project within the month of October, which makes you eligible to claim your exclusive swag.  We'll be working on product and documentation tasks during the sprint.

Mautic trials provider

During August a team of volunteers from the community have been working hard on reviewing all of the proposals we received from potential providers for a trial service of Mautic.  A provider has been chosen and we are just in the process of going through the legal paperwork before we make an announcement and get things rolling with implementing the new system.

I'm very excited that this will not only allow people to get started with Mautic very quickly and for free, but also that it will provide us an ongoing revenue stream if people decide to continue becoming a paid customer of that service.

We have learned a lot through this process, and I hope that we will also apply this knowledge in other areas where we need services to benefit the community in the future.

I plan to write up the whole process of how we went through this request for proposals project, both so that we have a template in the community going forward, and also so that it might help other Open Source projects who are in a similar situation.

That's all for now folks I'm sorry it's been a slightly longer update given that we skipped a month!

As always please feel free to reach out with me if you have any questions.  Thanks once again for all your ongoing support and I look forward to seeing you becoming members in the coming weeks.
