Trust The People

Trust The People is a collective of facilitators and organisers supporting the UK movement of people and communities building their own power and a new democracy. We run a 6-week online training programme and facilitate a network of people aiming towards new forms of democratic organisation and community power.

The group emerged out of the Covid-19 pandemic. Seeing the emergence of mutual aid groups across the country we wanted to create a coherent support system for new groups trying to organise democratically and create a new culture to manage conflict, cross social divides, and allow everyone’s voices to be heard. Our course draws on democratic innovation in the feminist, anti-heirarchical social movement and community organising tradition. Specifically, we are sharing and practicing skills related to group facilitation, nonviolent communication, active listening, sociocracy, although we bring these ideas in an open and non-partisan, non-jargonny way.

There are many groups and campaigns organising for democratic change to happen at the top of our social system (i.e. constitutional reform, proportional representation, citizens assemblies etc), we see ourselves as contributing to changing the democratic system from the bottom, in communities raising the level of agency of everyone.
