Center for Displaced People (Sweden)

The Center for Displaced Ukrainians is an activity center and meeting place in Stockholm where newcomers can find community in a welcoming environment, gain needed information, and attend (and host) activities. The venue is located at Södra Hamnvägen 9 next to the bus stations “Frihamnen” and “Frihamnens Färjeterminal”. The venue is located 15 minutes from Slussen by bus and 18 minutes from T-Centralen and can hold, at most, 250 people. Here, you may both attend and organize workshops, sessions, or classes focused on education, psychological or physical health, migrational law, child-related activities, and social interaction for free. We are also in cooperation with lawyers who regularly provide free public consultations about different legal matters related to newcomers. Above these activities, the room called The Living Room is open 10:00-15:00 between Monday and Thursdays and provides free coffee, tea, and cookies for all its visitors. Here, we also have volunteers who are working to make you feel comfortable and to provide you with whatever information about relief organizations, migrational law, and the Swedish system to the extent that they are able to. The level and sort of information that we can provide change to some extent depending on the special knowledge of the volunteers that are working that day. We do however always provide some printed material that may prove useful from the organizations Carebridge and Nordic Ukraine Forum, as well as from the Swedish health ministry. We also have a list of links and contacts which may be of use for people who are new in Sweden. This material will as soon as possible also be made available on our Facebook site. 

The Center for Displaced Ukrainians is a project driven by the newly started association The Center for Displaced People (Sweden). We are in cooperation with Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan who are assisting us with the arrangement and funding of different classes and activities that take place in the Center. Carebridge Sverige is another cooperating partner which uses the Center once a week as a landing site for their buses with which they transport displaced people from Ukraine and Krakow. We are then using the location as a meeting place for these newcomers and their hosts, who Carebridge has matched. HUG (Help Ukraine in Gothenburg) is one of our cooperators who has provided us with information about their similar project in Gothenburg and who we are assisting in creating a nationwide page for information to newcomers. Blivande is our host when it comes to the venue, and two of Blivandes board members are also part of the board of the Center for Displaced People (Sweden). Further, we are also cooperating with Ukraine Hjorthagen (organizers of the “Meetups for Ukrainians in Stockholm” at the St. Eugene Church) and Nordic Ukraine Forum whom we are (among other projects) cooperating with in order to provide psychological support for newcomers in the future.

At the moment, we are completely based on donations from individuals, though we are in the process of finding more stable sponsorships from companies and foundations. Please consider donating to us in order to make us sustain and expand our operation. Right now, we especially need money in order to pay rent for the venue, compensate our overworked pro bono coordinator for his time so that he can keep on holding the project running, print valuable information, and provide materials for some of our workshops.

All donations are public, and that also holds true for all our transactions and expenses. We have estimated that the whole budget that we would require in order to build and sustain the operation for half a year would amount to approximately 38 900 Euro or 400 000 SEK. We have some flexibility concerning when and how these funds are gathered, but some of our monetary needs are quite urgent. 

As of now, all the activities (except for one course in Swedish) are organized by unpaid volunteers. For some activity leaders, there may be a possibility to look for grants from other organizations, foundations or ministries which are focused on providing the relevant services to displaced people. 

We are looking for both more volunteers and more NGOs who want to help us extend the services that we may provide to our visitors. *Our Rooms*

-The Living Room is a very big room that contains several couches, a table, beautiful decorations,   and a small kitchen where the snacks and beverages are prepared. As of now, we also put out some padded floors and toys for the kids to play with, though we may soon dedicate a whole room for this in the future if there is a need for it. Usually, there is some lounge music playing here. If you want to hear any particular songs, feel free to provide a playlist or album.

-The Green Room is - as you might have guessed - green, and contains a big square area that is padded with Judo-mats which makes it ideal for activities such as group therapy sessions, conversation groups, yoga, or activities for children etc. One of the sound systems is placed in The Green Room and may be used (on a non-intrusive volume) if one asks one of the volunteers. The Green Room also contains a green grand piano which is at anyone's disposal as long as it does not bother others in the room.

-The White Room is a smaller and rectangular room with a sound system and plenty of windows. It also has a padded floor which can be removed in order to allow the room to be filled with chairs and tables. This room has thus far primarily been used for public consultations and classes. The White Room is about half the size of the Green Room and the Living Room.

-Frihamnstorget is a big outside square with a beautiful and surreal design and is situated five meters from the Center. Here we have access to barbecues, sitting areas and tables, and we have the possibility of bringing out speakers if the weather allows. The area is accessible to us through booking and is perfect for arranging barbecues, parties or play activities for children, public speeches and meetups etc.

Are you interested in helping with the coordination and/or volunteering? We are mainly looking for Ukrainians and Swedish people with Ukrainian backgrounds to get involved. This is both because of the language and because you may more closely understand both the culture off Ukraine and how it stands in relation to Swedish culture. In the long run, we would like to see that as much as possible is organized with or by the displaced community itself. This would allow us to provide services in a way that fits the actual target group the best. 

Центр для переміщених українців — це простір та місце зустрічей у Стокгольмі, де переміщені українці можуть знайти спільноту в привітному оточенні, отримати необхідну інформацію, відвідувати (а також проводити) заходи. Простір знаходиться за адресою Södra Hamnvägen 9 поруч із автостанціями «Frihamnen» та «Frihamnens Färjeterminal». Це за 15 хвилин їзди на автобусі від Slussen та за 18 хвилин від T-Centralen. Тут ви можете безкоштовно відвідувати та організовувати семінари, сесії чи заняття, присвячені освіті, психологічному чи фізичному здоров’ю, міграційному праву, працевлаштуванню, роботою з дітьми, соціальній взаємодії тощо. Ми також співпрацюємо з двома юридичними фірмами, які надають безкоштовні публічні консультації з різних правових питань. На даний момент всі заходи (крім одного курсу шведської мови) організовуються безоплатними волонтерами. Для деяких керівників діяльності може бути можливість шукати гранти від інших організацій, фондів чи міністерств, які орієнтовані на надання відповідних послуг переселенцям.

Крім цих заходів, кімната під назвою The Living Room працює з 10:00 до 15:00 з понеділка по четвер і пропонує безкоштовну каву, чай та печиво для всіх відвідувачів. Тут у нас також є волонтери, які працюють над тим, щоб ви почувалися комфортно, і щоб надати вам будь-яку інформацію про організації допомоги, міграційне законодавство та шведську систему. Тип інформації, яку ми можемо надати, певною мірою змінюються залежно від спеціальних знань волонтерів, які працюють у цей день. Проте ми завжди надаємо деякі друковані матеріали, які можуть виявитися корисними від організацій Carebridge та Nordic Ukraine Forum, а також від міністерства охорони здоров’я Швеції. - Вітальня – це дуже велика кімната, яка містить кілька диванів, стіл, гарне оздоблення та невелику кухню, де готують закуски та напої. На даний момент ми також робимо м’яку підлогу та іграшки для дітей, хоча незабаром ми можемо виділити для цього цілу кімнату в майбутньому, якщо в цьому буде потреба. Зазвичай тут звучить лаунж-музика. Якщо ви хочете почути певні пісні, не соромтеся надати список відтворення або альбом.

- Зелена кімната, як ви вже здогадалися, зелена, і містить велику квадратну зону, забиту килимками для дзюдо, що робить її ідеальною для таких заходів, як групові сеанси терапії, розмовні групи, йога або заняття для дітей тощо. аудіосистем розміщується в The Green Room і може використовуватися (на ненав'язливій гучності), якщо хтось попросить когось із волонтерів. Green Room також містить зелений рояль, який є в розпорядженні будь-кого, якщо він не заважає іншим у кімнаті.

- Біла кімната – це менша прямокутна кімната зі звуковою системою та великою кількістю вікон. Він також має м’яку підлогу, яку можна зняти, щоб кімната була заповнена стільцями та столами. До цього часу ця кімната в основному використовувалася для громадських консультацій та занять. Біла кімната приблизно вдвічі менша за Зелену кімнату та вітальню.

Frihamnstorget – це велика вулична площа з красивим і сюрреалістичним дизайном і розташована в п’яти метрах від центру. Тут у нас є мангали, зони відпочинку та столики, а також у нас є можливість вивести колонки, якщо дозволяє погода. Територія доступна для нас через бронювання та ідеально підходить для організації барбекю, вечірок чи ігор для дітей, публічних виступів та зустрічей тощо.

Центр для переміщених людей – це проект нової ініціативи HUS (Help Ukraine в Стокгольмі) у співпраці з Carebridge, HUG (Help Ukraine в Гетеборзі), Blivande та Ukraine Hjorthagen (організатори «Зустріч для українців у Стокгольмі» за адресою Hjorthagkyrkan). Ідея Центру була створена за натхненням з подібного проекту під назвою The Livingroom in Gothenburg, який веде організація Help Ukraine in Gothenburg (HUG).
