About
ursuppe is a public service for contemporary art in Denmark, amplifying events, archives, and highlights, as well as providing a pinboard. Built on an artist-run, anti-authoritarian, and open-source ethos, we are organized as a platform cooperative. The users, collaborators, and partners who create the content that we provide are what constitute ursuppe.
We are a political platform, critiquing the establishment while recognizing the need for engagement to drive structural change. We seek to enhance accessibility and inclusivity in contemporary art, as well as software culture, bridging digital and physical spaces.
ursuppe is local and therefore rooted in what can be considered "Denmark". Not to confuse with any nationalist ideals, but the local is what makes us sustainable and the field of contemporary art in "Denmark" is reasonably small and can therefore be considered local. Our codebase is, as mentioned, open source and is encouraged to be copied and adapted for other localities (see also point 8 of oco principles).
We operate on open source principles, distributed under an ethical license (CNPLv7). This allows users to access, modify, and distribute the software provided it does not promote harm, discrimination, or conflict. Commercial use is limited to cooperatives and other worker-owned organizations. We host software workshops, particularly as hackerspaces, to encourage participation from diverse communities.
To ensure diversity and political awareness, our core working group artist-editors curates the highlighted content of the platform and conduct workshops to examine our collective stance. We work for equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized. Our organizational structure combines an Open Commons Organization (oco) with a worker-owned platform cooperative model.
ursuppe want to stand clear with our solidarity for Palestine as well as condemning other oppression and occupations of imperialist violence. We recognise the historically inequitable social reality of both contemporary art and software communities and the dominance of patriarchal and capitalist structures and behaviours within them. We aim to create an inclusive space as a disruptive action to change this history.
